Rewriting History: Towhid Hridoy’s Record-Breaking Double Century Against the West Indies

Towhid Hridoy delivered one of the most astonishing individual performances in Bangladesh cricket history during the second Test against the West Indies in Sylhet. Playing in just his third Test match, the 25-year-old middle-order batsman crafted an unforgettable, unbeaten 242 to single-handedly drag his team out of trouble and past the visitors' first-innings total.

A Monumental Rescue Act

Walking to the crease with Bangladesh in early trouble at 22 for 2, Hridoy faced a baptism of fire against a disciplined West Indian bowling attack. Even as wickets tumbled around him—leaving the hosts precariously placed at 205 for 7—Hridoy displayed immense technical resilience and mental fortitude.

He forged crucial partnerships, most notably a gri²tty 117-run eighth-wicket stand with Taijul Islam, turning a near-certain collapse into a position of strength. His masterclass pushed Bangladesh's total to 386, securing a vital 30-run first-innings lead.

Shattering National Records

Hridoy's historic knock didn't just alter the course of the match; it rewrote the national record books:

Highest Individual Test Score: Hridoy surpassed Mushfiqur Rahim’s long-standing record of 219*, finishing with a magnificent unbeaten 242 off 359 balls.

Maiden Century Conversion: He became the very first Bangladeshi batter to convert his maiden Test century straight into a double hundred.

Venue & Opposition Records: His 242 stands as the highest individual score at the Sylhet venue (surpassing Mahmudul Hasan's 171) and the highest-ever score by a Bangladeshi against the West Indies.

Elite Company: He joined Mushfiqur Rahim, Tamim Iqbal, and Shakib Al Hasan as only the fourth Bangladeshi player to score a Test double century.

Explosive Boundary Hitting: His innings was decorated with 22 fours and 11 sixes, setting a new benchmark for the most sixes by a Bangladeshi batsman in a single Test innings.

First-Class Milestone Impact: The monumental knock also propelled his overall First-Class numbers past 1,500 runs, further cementing his status as one of the country's brightest and most reliable long-format prospects.

Hridoy's double-century will be remembered as a coming-of-age masterclass—a performance that not only bailed Bangladesh out of a crisis but also etched his name permanently alongside the greatest icons of the nation's cricketing history.
