THE RULERS OF PALESTINE DURING JESUS' TIME
Palestine was part of the Roman Empire because the Romans has conquer it.Palestine was the most for the Romans. The rulers of the Palestine were the Herods.Old King Herod the Great was great supporter of Rome and Rome allowed him to rule as king of the Jews from 37BC to 4AD.When Herod the Great died none were allowed succeed him as King. The countrywas divided to his sons.Phillip succceded to Ituraea. He seems to rule well.Herold Antipas inherited Galilee and Peraera. The sons of Herod were not allowed to call themselves 'king'.They use the given title 'ruler' and Antipas is usually called Herod the tetrach.
Archelaus succeeded to Judaea and Samaria, but his rule was so bad that Jews and the Samaritans combined - a most unusualthing to happen - and protest to Rome.In 6AD Archelauswas dismissed .From 26AD -36AD the governor was Pontius Pilate. His headquarters was not in Jerusalem but at Caesarea down the coast. In the time of Jesus ,Judaea and Samaria were ruled by a Roman governor ,Pilate, while Galilee and Perarea was ruled by native rule -Herod Antipas.
